A heart-rending hard luck story and an impulsive act of kindness: Would you take in a stranger at Christmas? | Mail Online
You take risks in life and people have taken risks for me, so I want to give something back.
I used to hitch-hike and never had any problems; in fact, the drivers often gave me money for a taxi to finish my journey. So many people have trusted me and I'd like to go on trusting them.
I do accept I was naive, but I would hate to think James is the last person I'll ever trust. I'd be the loser if that was the case.
Perhaps times are changing, maybe the country is less safe, but at this time of year it would be a terrible thing if we all lost sight of the essence of this season: goodwill towards other people, whoever they are.
