Sign our Fair Cop petition to help police | The Daily Telegraph
THE thin blue line - that separates civilisation from anarchy - is becoming thinner.
It's being starved by a Government that either doesn't understand or doesn't care.
Our state's policemen and women, our frontline troops in an endless battle against forces that would hurt and impoverish us, are apparently rated as less important than ferry engineers.
This isn't to demean ferry engineers, without whom our ferry fleet would be even less reliable. Not at all.
But you don't turn to a ferry engineer if you've been robbed. Ferry engineers don't respond at midnight to fatal car accidents.
When rioters swarm or guns are drawn, you don't call out a ferry engineer.
Yet the pay rise offered to our police is below the rate of inflation.
The cruel truth is that our police are being punished not for any of their own shortcomings but because the state Labor Government is too incompetent to compose a proper budget.
Were this a just state, the Government itself would be cut. Instead they're slashing away at the officers who deserve better.
