Metropolitan and regional train, tram and bus services will be free from first to last service on Thursday 25 December.

Take the easy route to your Christmas Day celebrations where no-one has to drive and everyone can enjoy the free ride.


Metropolitan trains


Trains will run to a Sunday timetable

If you're travelling on V/Line trains, it's important you book ahead by calling 136 196.


Metropolitan trams
Trams will run to a Sunday timetable with the first tram as per the normal weekday timetable, then every 30 minutes until the regular Sunday timetable commences. City Circle trams will not run.


Metropolitan buses


The following bus routes run to a Sunday timetable:

If your bus route is not listed here it does not run on Christmas Day.



Make sure you plan your journey before you travel with the journey planner or call 131 638. The call centre is open 6am to 10pm on Christmas Day.

Customers are advised that no refunds will be given for accidental purchase or validation of Metcards on Christmas Day. Periodical tickets such as Weekly, Monthly or Yearly Metcards will not be extended.
