Federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has thrown his support behind a 20-year-old LNP candidate, quashing speculation the opposition leader was pushing for a change.

Mr Abbott yesterday rejected speculation he wanted to draft a more experienced hand to challenge the Labor-held federal seat of Longman, north of Brisbane, rather than recently pre-selected political prodigy Wyatt Roy.

Mr Abbott said Mr Roy was the best available candidate for the seat of Longman and he would have his full support at the upcoming federal election.
