Economic Rationalism and Globalisation

My Reflection (2) We live in the globalisation era where we find there are so many paradox. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. Because we are in the globalized world, there are some consequences we got from the globalisation. Regardles of who we are, student, parents, or teacher, the globalisation has inevitably affected all of our life. If the effects are positive, we can leave it because it will not harm our life. However, globalisation has disadvantaged our life, too. It is very sad. For example, the gap between the poor and the rich is so wide because in the globalized world, only money and market can do everything. Money and market has become the most important part of our life. This condition is very awful because not all people have money. Moreover, globalisation has undermine the human value and the social awareness. People are so individual, greedy, and selfish. This condition has disadvantaged our people, especially the poor. We should realize that two third of the world population is categorized as the poor. They dont have money. It means they can not do anything. They can not eat properly. They can not access schools nad hospital. So, who got benefit from globalisation? Undoubtedly, the rich has been advantaged from this unfair situation. They can get everthing they want.On the other hand, the poor is struggling to live. The globalisation and economic rationalism has mad the poor are poorer. It seems that the economic rationalism has made these people are not allowed to live, to study, and to be sick. How come? Economic rationalism has created human in different level, they are elites and the marginalized. Only the elites who have power because they have money and market. On the other hand, the poor is the marginalized who has to live under the rich's power. We have to get rid of this situation. In my opinion, globalisation and the economic rationalism should not harm the life of our people. It means we need protection from the adverse effects of the economic rationalism. In this case, we need regulation which will prevent the poor marginalized. In this case, government in everywhere has an important role to protect the poor. They have to make laws which are advantageous to the poor not to suit the vested interests. For example, in Indonesia, the idea of privatisazion derived from economic liberalization, actually can be prevented if Indonesian government has a strong stand in order to refuse the IMF recipe. Unfortunately, the government has been driven by IMF. They followed every recipe that IMF offered, including the idea of privatization. They make new laws to adjust with the IMF needs not the needs of Indonesian people. They sell many goods and services (school, university, hospital) to private sectors. This action has made Indonesian people can't afford to buy goods and to go to university. Only the rich can afford it. The regulation that Indonesian government make has harmed the people in Indonesia and this has violenced the human rights. - Huminca -
